Workout Apparel For Women Buying Guide

Just because you feel sweaty and gross when you exercise doesn't mean your clothes have to be too. When you're working out, you should feel comfortable in what you're wearing and be able to move around easily and unrestricted While setting fitness  goals may be more important than what you wear to the gym, the right workout apparel  can help you reach them. Many people take buying workout clothing  very casually, but unless you know what you're looking for, you may end up with items you'll never use. While buying workout apparel is pretty simple, you don't want to end up being frustrated at the gym because your clothes don't fit right. Take a look at this guide to help make sure you choose the clothing that works best for you.

General Tips

  • Buy for your body type. Clothes that are too big or too small will be uncomfortable.
    • A closer fit will mean more comfort, especially with bottoms. Shorts  and pants  that are too big tend to cause chafing.
  • If you want to keep it simple, shorts and a t-shirt  with a sports bra  are an easy way to go.
  • Consider the environment you'll be working out in.
    • If you'll be going to a gym or working out at home, you'll want lighter clothes.
    • If you'll be working out when the weather is cold, you should go for warmer options. You may also want to look into getting a hat  or gloves and maybe even some sunglasses.
  • Don't buy the first thing you see. You'll be happier with your purchase if you take the time to pick out the items that are best for you.
  • If you don't feel comfortable in spandex there are plenty of alternatives. However, keep in mind that baggy clothing tends to get in the way.

Tops

Workout T-Shirts

Whether you choose to wear a junky old shirt in the back of your closet or a short sleeve tee  designed to handle the elements, make sure it's one that fits you loosely around the neck and one that you don't mind getting sweaty in.

Tanks

Tank tops are great for working out because they can keep you cool in warm weather and help your arms to breathe. Consider absorbent fabrics like cotton  that will dry quickly.

Long Sleeve Shirts

Thin long-sleeved shirts are great for layering up on those frigid winter days. Thin turtlenecks  work well also to cover your neck and keep you warm.

Exercise Jackets

When purchasing a jacket for exercise, double check that it has a hood  for keeping your head warm in winter weather. Pockets and a comfortable lining such as fleece  can be helpful as well.

Sport Bras

These are one of the most important items women can wear while working out. Whether they are underwire  or soft cupthey can provide extra support  and help you to feel secure while working out, no matter what type of exercise you are doing.

Bottoms

Spandex Leggings

Wearing leggings  or specially designed tights  while you work out can help you keep up your speed and still achieve maximum performance.

Mesh Shorts

Mesh or polyester shorts  and capris  are great for running in warmer weather or at the gym. The fabric hangs loosely and won't bunch or be uncomfortable while you are working out.

Cheer Shorts

If you find that longer shorts bother you while running, then cheer shorts are the perfect solution. They are shorter in front and back so that you barely feel them while you are exercising.

Yoga Pants

Yoga pants are lighter than your standard heavy work out pants. They are great for the cooler weather and provide a snug fit.

Sweat Pants

Sweat pants work well by holding in heat and act well as a layering piece during your workouts. They are comfortable enough to be worn as pajamas but durable enough to handle workouts.

Workout Accessories

Headbands  and Hair Clips

Perfect for holding your hair back and preventing it from getting in your way while you are focused on losing pounds!

iPods

Pick up a small iPod that you can easily carry with you while running, or strap onto an armband  for convenience.

Pedometer

These are great for measuring your mileage and timing while you work out.

Sneakers  and Socks

Having the right sneakers  and socks while you work out is as important as the exercise itself. You want your sneakers to offer you the ultimate in support so you do not injure or strain yourself.

Water Bottles

Some water bottles are designed to fit underneath bikes if you plan on taking a long ride, or they are great for carrying just about anywhere you exercise.
