Romance Films

Women love romance. We can't help it. Even if some of us won't admit it, most wouldn't mind being swept off their feet and whisked away to a world where men are perfect, flowers are abundant, and chocolate supplies are endless (and calorie-free). Hollywood has been making a fortune off this female characteristic for years: if they can get our heart to race, we're hooked. Whether we're single or with someone, women love a good, old-fashioned, boy-meets-girl love story.

But I'm not going to exclude men; there are tons of guys out there who've come across a romance film they like, so obviously there is a romance out there for everyone! Some may prefer the classics with suave, debonair actors such as Cary Grant in To Catch a Thief  or Gregory Peck in Roman Holiday , others may be partial to comedy like hilarious flicks such as Bridget Jones's Diary Still others prefer period romances like the beautiful tale of Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy in Pride and Prejudice , and some favor the movies  that get you off your feet and into the groove, like Grease and Dirty Dancing Or maybe you're just that person who enjoys almost all romance films because as long as you get that butterflies-in-your-stomach feeling, you're satisfied. Well, if you love any or all romance films, our guide will help you pick out your next new favorite (or favorites).

New Releases

Looking for a free night and a new movie to spend it with? Well, pop the corn and have a seat! These romance films have just been released on DVD.

The Proposal

Starring Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds

In a topsy-turvy romantic comedy, Margaret Tate (Bullock) is at the height of career success when she is suddenly informed that she's being deported back to Canada. Then she comes up with a plan: marry the assistant (Reynolds) to get a Green Card. Seems like a piece of cake until she starts to actually fall for him.

Ghosts of Girlfriends Past

Starring Matthew McConaughey and Jennifer Garner

Connor Mead (McConaughey) is a ruthless womanizer and dumps girlfriends whenever they fall in love with him. Since he's a photographer, he's always surrounded by beautiful women who want their pictures taken, oblivious that he'll break their hearts. But all of these girlfriends come back to haunt him and through this, Connor figures out that his true love was right under his nose.

Away We Go

Starring Maya Rudolph and John Krasinski

Away We Go is a grown-up, coming-of-age film directed by Sam Mendes. Burt and Verona are expecting, so they venture on a nationwide quest to find the perfect home base for their new family. Along they way, they run into family and friends who teach them the meaning of togetherness.

He's Just Not That Into You

Starring Jennifer Aniston and Ben Affleck

He's Just Not That Into You is a romantic comedy about all the love clichés. How long should you wait to call after the first date? At what point in the relationship should you move in together? Is marriage really necessary? Complete with an all-star cast and good soundtrack, this film is sure to give you a good laugh.

The Classics

Back when people like Audrey Hepburn and Clark Gable graced Hollywood with their presence, countless romance films were made. Usually doused in syrupy one-liners and melodramatic kissing scenes, these films seemed to maintain a very key element: charm. Charm, in any movie, is what helps it withstand the test of time. So, although most classic romance films  are predictable and cheesy, we can't help but love them.
