Kansas City Chiefs Merchandise

Representing the state of Missouri, the Kansas City Chiefs participate in the American Football Conference in the NFL. They migrated their home base in 1963 from Dallas, Texas to Missouri in order to attract a wider, less biased fan-base. Prior to this move, they had to compete with the Dallas Cowboys--a well-established professional team, even in spite of their losing record at the time--for ticket sales, local crowds and national attention. The move proved a success, and the Chiefs continued to dominate right out of the franchise starting gate, winning AFC championships in 1962, 1966, and 1969 and beating the Minnesota Vikings in the 1970 Super Bowl. Unfortunately, the Chiefs' victory run staggered to a halt and their championship tally has remained stagnant since 1970. However, despite their drought of success (they ended the 2008 season with a 2-14 record), they've maintained one of the most intense, loyal followings in professional football over the years. Kansas City continues to draw huge crowds--regardless of the season statistics--and fans remain fervent and optimistic that their team will re-establish themselves as a dominant force once again. This guide is for all those enthusiastic fans out there who persist in their dedication to Kansas City: you'll need an ample wardrobe to supplement your obsession for the Chiefs and this is a great place to start.

Weather it Out

With a yearly fluctuation of cold winters and hot summers, you'll need to prepare yourself for all kinds of weather during the football season. Stock up on t-shirts shorts  and hats  for the summer and use the winter time as an excuse to whip out your beanie  and hooded sweatshirt Use these extra tips to help guide you through the fickle weather so you can focus on just enjoying the game.

Hot, Hot, Hot!

  •  At the start of the football season, the Missouri sun will be beating down on you in your stadium seat. Make sure to hydrate yourself, especially if you're tailgating beforehand--bring a cooler  with some cold drinks to satiate your thirst.
  • Wear light-colored clothes if the sun is truly brutal. For the guys, you can go with a t-shirt  or jersey : however, wear the sleeveless shirt  with caution since the associated stereotype tends to have negative connotations. The ladies can also sport a t-shirt  or tank top
  • To shield your eyes from the sun, throw on a hat  and sunglasses  to eliminate the glare.

Chilly Billy

  • As the season rolls along, it becomes essential to layer on the clothes to stay warm. Nothing distracts you more than numb fingers and chattering teeth, and it's always better to wear more layers than less (it's always colder in the wind-gusting stadium). Bringing a blanket  along is a good choice, and you can always leave it in the car if necessary.
  • Start out with a t-shirt or long-sleeved shirt  as your basic outfit and go from there, adding either a sweatshirt hoody or jacket
    • If you want the sweatshirt to be your top layer, a hooded sweatshirt is the better choice since it adds extra warmth to your neck and can provide head coverage in case of rain or snow. Crew-neck sweatshirts are great for the middle layer, since it's less bulky than a hoody and can easily be covered with a large jacket.
  • The ladies also get their choice of cold-weather gear. Try a white club seat hoody  that has a cute drawstring accessory at the bottom, or a varsity fleece jacket  that gives off a more athletic vibe. Of course you can also layer up at night with Kansas City pajama pants, available for both guys  and girls

Hats Galore

Hats are one of the devoted fan's most essential accessory. They can make or break an outfit and can add an edge to one's normal attire by supporting your team in this subtle manner. Hats--especially baseball caps--have been around for ages in the sports world and continue to dominate as a very popular merchandise choice. There are hats for every age, gender and weather, so take your pick and choose a hat that will match your personality this season.

If you're going for a plain 'ole baseball cap you still have a huge array of choices. Rather than going for the impulse buy, take your time in finding a cap that you'll want to keep on season after season.

Hats are a great addition to one's winter outfit. Keeping your head covered is key to staying warm during the game, and winter beanie hats  are all the rage, for both girls and guys.

Visors  are quite the popular item for soccer moms and tourists, but can also look suave on a rowdy fan as well. If you want something a little more sleek, search for a visor with a bit of a design, like a red and gold adjustable

Looking for a hat that's a bit off the beaten path? Try a zebra print cap  or a Kansas City baseball cap with a flat bill  and you'll be sure to get extra points for enthusiasm and originality in the Chiefs' fashion department.

If you really want to get odd and funky, these fan helmet hats  are just the thing for you. Luckily, they also serve the purpose of keeping your face and head warm. Who's laughing now?

Accessorize!

One of the many fun things about being a hard-core Chiefs fan is all the quirky accessories you can purchase. Surround yourself with nifty items--such as the ones you see below--and not only will you be immersed in football energy 24/7, but you will also be the target of envy from all your fellow fans.

Socks  are quickly becoming a cool accessory again--far from the 1980's tube sock rage--and what can be better than augmenting your sock collection with some Chiefs spirit?

A Chiefs wrist watch  makes for a great gift and exudes a subtler side to team devotion than some of the other crazy Kansas City paraphernalia.

If you're planning a trip anytime soon--even if it's a well-needed trip to the gym--a Chiefs duffel bag  is a fun and useful item to use in toting your goods.

Kansas City fans might not be as cute as this monkey so don't get too ooshy-gushy when you see this darling stuffed animal being paraded around.
