I love that this is a recycled by-product of another textile process. The color variation is very nice and evenly distributed through the skein. A little bit lumpy-bumpy, but that does add to the charm of this yarn. This is a single ply yarn, so a little bit tightly twisted making it rather rough, but I must say that it hangs nicely without kinking.

Silk is the only organic fiber that is in the form of a filament, and it is produced by the silkworm. In spinning its cocoon for its metamorphosis from the chrysalis state, the silkworm forms in its internal orifices called "spinnerets" located below its mouth. When emitted, the two threads combine into a single thread and harden immediately upon exposure to air. the filaments adhere to each other to form the cocoon shell. After the cocoons are harvested, they are 'reeled" by placing them in...

These lustrous yarns are from India and are handspun by the unique method of softening with soap, then pulling out the fibre directly into a yarn. This produces a semi-continuous, extremely strong yarn with a very long staple (3"+). The yarns dye beautifully, with colours slightly muted by the soft undertone of beige. The colour is a light silvery brown, slightly variegated. Suitable for knitting, by hand or machine, and for warp.

Baby Alpaca Silk yarn might be called the next best thing to Cashmere yarn and I have to concur. The combination of this ultra soft fiber with the strength and sheen of silk makes this hand dyed yarn a winner with a soft halo. This hand dyed yarn is skeined in a generous 750 yard length, making it a good fit for cozy shawls or lots of other beautiful projects. Click here to buy Pearl of Wisdom Stole...

Silk yarns! I've always loved silk - not just its feel, but also the smell (a weaver-friend of mine says that is the smell of money!), the sheen (bombyx - tussah has a "flat" finish), the drape, its ability to take dye, and the wonderful "scrunch" when you squeeze it.

This handspun yarn comes from the wild caterpillar that eats the leaves of the Som Tree or the Soalu Tree and is found in Assam, India. The silk produced is of a golden color.

This silk yarn is not shiny. It is a combed a silk in ecru, not white . It looks more like a fine handspun yarn when looking closely. It will make a lovely fabric as is, and it dyes beautifully. It is fine enough for blouse material and softens up nicely with washing. It is not shiny at all, but has a nice raw silk look. The Silk noil dyes beautifully or can be used as is.

In terms of touch, this Superior is sinful in its quest for full- body contact. I can't imagine a more heavenly yarn for a knitted camisole. One skein would make a glorious little lace scarf that you could wrap around and around your neck. But a word of caution: You'll never want to take it off.
