When it comes to Petite Sirah, wine drinkers tend to fall into two categories: those who love Petite Sirah, and those who don't. Petite Sirah is kind of the anti-Pinot: brawny, muscular, always looking to pick a fight. It's a fruit-jam bomb with an added shot of black pepper. And nobody does it better than Bob Foley over at Switchback. Frankly, we love it!

Bogle Petite Sirah
On the nose, luscious boysenberry scents mingle with traces of cedar and black pepper. Trademark jammy notes fill the mouth with ripe fruit and berries. Voluptuous finish lingers with toasty vanilla oak and lush fruit. Firm tannins make this a wine that can be enjoyed now and for years to come. Think taverns, paneled and shadowy, with hearty fare - meat pies, lamb, pork or game in rich sauces.

Robert Foley Petite Sirah 2007
Sourced from one of the best Petite Sirah vineyards in Calistoga, vintner Bob Foley now produces PS for his own line-up. Inky, with ultra-deep blue fruit, this 2007 is a combination of last year's Muscleman and Pepperlan single bottling Petite Sirahs. I highly suggest tasting this Petite Sirah with a rich meal.

As Americas first Petite Sirah, Concannons Central Coast Petite Sirah is a wine lovers treat. Concentrated to deliver intense flavors from the first sip to the last delicious drop. Full-bodied, rich wine with soft, full tannins and primary fruit flavors of cherry, dark berry and blueberry. Secondary flavors of chocolate and cassis are complex with hints of toast and creamy oak. Either hide this gem away for 3-5 years or drink now. Enjoy with beef, lamb, wild game or any hearty dish.

Shows the inky black color, think sandpaper tannins and dryness that mark the best of North Coast Petite Sirah. Those qualities make the wine a bit hard and closed now, but the flavors are a real buried treasure. Blackberries, currants, licorice, beef jerky, cola, sweet leather, it's a tremendous swirl of complexity. If you must drink soon, decant. Otherwise the wine will effortlessly ride out the next 20 years.

Rosenblum 2006 Petite Sirah Heritage Clones
Winemaker Notes - This wine exhibits great color with a bouquet and flavors of ripe blackberries, plums, chocolate, black pepper, violets and spice. Contra Costa will soon be known as the Mecca for Petite Sirah. This wine is amazing both in aromatics and flavors, not to mention the color, which is jet black. The last two vintages have score 90 points or more by Robert Parker's Wine Advocate.

Making a delicious Petite Sirah is no easy task, especially if you like it with Petite's signature tannin, as we do. Ripeness and balance are key, in the vineyard and in the winery. Bill and Trish Naylor's Petite Sirah vineyard is the oldest, and at 2700 feet, possibly the highest elevation in Fair Play. Yields are low, flavors are intense. With a view of Mt. Diablo to the west, and situated above the Middle Fork of the Cosumnes River below, the fruit from this vineyard gives us a unique and pure...

This wine has a lot of body and tends to go well with stronger meats - game, beef, lamb and is an excellent companion to spicy sauces and hearty pasta dishes.

Seriously dark in color, its seductive ripe cherry, coconut and exotic spices soar from the glass. The clock is ticking on availability… a microscopic 168 cases produced.

Up front blueberry syrup, black cherry and coffee b ean shake up the senses, finishing with warm cigar box cedar and vanillan flavors. Brawny, solid tannins send aftershocks down the throat creating a seemingly endless finish. When all is said and done this Petite Sirah leaves its mark of destruction, leaving teeth and glasses stained of its inky dark color.

This wine reflects its hillside origins, showing a very deep red intense color. It's bouquet is more subtle, with hints of white pepper and violets and a background of black currant jam. On the palate, the wine is bright with lots of liquorice, cranberry and blackberry. Soft, yet firm tannins will allow for mid-term aging but the wine is beautiful now! - Cécile Lemerle-Derbes, Winemaker
