Of all of Jonata s stellar releases, this 2005 La Fuerza takes the cake when it comes to being the deepest, darkest, firmest offering. If you haven't heard about Charles Banks and Stan Kroenke's estate vineyard in Santa Ynez, here's a heads up. Everything they are making on their property is compelling and eye opening. While they don-t make a lot of each offering, winemakers Matt Dees and Andy Erickson have proven there s potential in this newer locale for bordeaux-style wines.

Petit Verdot: always the bridesmaid, never the bride. The grape has a long history and has played a part in some of the world’s best Bordeaux blends, but since it rarely appears on its own, it’s never gotten the name recognition of its compatriots Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot. It’s no wilting flower! The “petit” refers to the size of the grapes, not the character of the wine. In fact, those small grapes make for lots of intensity and power in the bottle.

In contrast to our other Right Bank reserve level wine, Bourriquot features more fine-grained tannins, becoming more elegant early in life than the robust flavors of the Carneros Merlot. The 2003 continues this style, opening with lively tobacco flower and cherry aromas that explode in the mouth. The mid-palate is ... more

A welcoming blueberry - violet floral bouquet and dark maroon color is so inviting, you can't wait to have a taste! extended maceration and barrel aging for 20 months in French and American oak gives the intense blueberry character from the Petit Verdot winegrape a light spice and vanilla flavor. A robust tannin structure gives the wine definition, and when you finish your sip, the blueberry taste will last - exactly what you expect from a luxurious wine!

Researched for eleven years before the release of the first vintage in 1994, the Pirramimma Petit Verdot vineyard was the first and is now the largest in Australia. Pirramimma Petit Verdot has won 28 show medals and has the enviable reputation of being the best Petit Verdot in Australia. Swiss wine critic Ren Gabriel asks: Is there any better Petit Verdot in the world? Pirramimma has long been a benchmark for varietal verdot. Tim White Oct 2003 100 Best Australian Wines 2005 selected by Mathew...

Most of the Petit Verdot from our Main Street Vineyard ends up in our Meritage. As in its native Bordeaux, this thick skinned grape adds color and grip to the final blend. But, from time to time I like to bottle a small amount of this lesser known variety for both intellectual and hedonistic reasons. This is dark, dense and ripe. The nose is forward and bold with blackberries, violets, vanilla and spice. The tannins are firm, yet supple. This is a great wine to serve with barbecued lamb.

Abacela was founded with the specific purpose of exploring Southern Oregon’s viticultural potential with rather uncommon experimental varietals that would “never ripen in Oregon.” Surprisingly the somewhat cool 2005 vintage produced exceptional Petit Verdot fruit that we eagerly harvested in mid-October.

I purchased two bottles of this fabulous wine, along with several other "must try" marvels from the Monterey area, during a September stopover in Salinas -- the Taste of Monterey shopkeeper was so helpful. We drank the Escafeld to celebrate my husband's birthday last weekend, along with a delicious meal at one of Chicago's many unbeatable BYOB Italian eateries. It is agreed: One of THE best wines at this price point that we have enjoyed in many, many years. Look for more Chicago area orders to come...

Description: Pirramimma was founded by Alexander Campbell Johnston in 1892 and has been owned and operated by the Johnston family ever since. The Johnston family arrived in South Australia in 1839 and in 1892 Alexander, the tenth of thirteen children, purchased 97 hectares of rich farmland southeast of the then fledgling village of McLaren Vale. He named his land Pirramimma, an Aboriginal phrase meaning "the moon and the stars". The vineyard soils vary from sandy, on the rise, to rich dark loam...

2006 Petit Verdot
Petit Verdot is a relative newcomer to our wine offerings. We made our first vintage of this Napa Valley rarity in 2001. The addition to our portfolio has been brief, but the impact significant. This high-quality red-wine grape hails from the Bordeaux region, as do Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Although Petit Verdot is valued as a blending grape, we find that is makes a tasty, dense wine all on its own. The 2006 Petit Verdot is generously fruity and rich with a smoky, floral-toned...

Vineyard Notes: Grown at Argyle Vineyards in the sandy clay loam foothills of Monterey County's ninth and newest appellation, the San Antonio Valley, our vines see summer daytime temperatures 10-20 degrees warmer than much of Monterey County, with a cooling nighttime influence, and a little morning fog coming over the Santa Lucia range from the Pacific Ocean, just 15-20 miles away. This gives us a daily heat cycle of 50 degrees, producing the exceptional fruit that is hand harvested for our limited...
